    JOB SUMMARY

     

    Come work at Gatlinburg’s largest retailer. Located at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NOC Gatlinburg has a lot to offer our guests as they gear up for their day or trip into the park. Inside we have a 28 foot climbing wall, a kid’s bear cave, and an Eagle’s Nest Outfitters lounge area. Our staff are experts in park trail information, rafting on the Pigeon, Ocoee, and Nantahala, and other fun outdoor activities in the area.

     

    Our store is roughly 18,000 square feet of experiential retailing with products from top outdoor brands. Formerly known as the Open Hearth Restaurant, NOC renovated this building in 2010 and opened its doors as a LEED certified outdoor retailer. Our guests have three levels to explore and shop where they will find new experiences around every corner. Whether it is climbing, relaxing in rocking chairs by the fireplace, or discovering the latest and greatest in camping gear and clothing our guests always enjoy visiting us year after year.

     

    The Shift Manager will be responsible for opening and closing the Store, along with managing daily operations. This position provides daily supervision of all shift employees to ensure all merchandise is up to visual standards and stocked. In addition, the Shift Manager will focus on employee and guest engagement to ensure an outstanding experience for employees and guests alike.

     

    This is a full-time, benefits eligible position and reports to the Store Manager and Assistant Managers. 

    Responsibilities

    Oversee floor operations

    • Ensure all operational supplies are stocked for the day
    • Resolve employee and guest concerns/questions
    • Ensure change runs are done in a timely manner
    • Complete opening/closing duties as outlined by management

    Outline the schedule for the day

    • Assign and delegate all work assignments/projects to floor staff
    • Ensure adequate staffing levels for projected sales for the day
    • Coordinate breaks to maintain proper floor coverage
    • Deliver a clear and cohesive plan for the staff each day

    Stocking and cleaning

    • Maintain a well-stocked floor
    • Maintain all visual merchandising standards throughout the store at all times
    • Work alongside staff to ensure a tidy and presentable floor

    Ensure a positive guest experience

    • Embrace a high standard for guest service
    • Ensure NOC guests are the number one priority at all times
    • Provide support or mediation to guests or staff when necessary
    • Make certain all staff are handling guests appropriately
    • Coordinate with other departments to improve guest experience

    Training and Communication

    • Train incoming and returning staff as needed
    • Keep lines of communication open with management and fellow staff members

    Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED

    • Must be, at minimum, 18 years of age
    • Previous management experience

    PREFERRED

    • Previous retail experience
    • Experience and knowledge in various outdoor activities and their associated retail products
    • Familiarity with NOC culture, values and mission

    • Detail oriented and organized with excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task
    • Self-motivated
    • Good ‘people’ skills for a wide spectrum of personalities
    • Ability to function as a team player, take direction, and/or function independently on assigned projects

    Physical Requirement and Environment 

    • Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time
    • Able to safely lift objects up to 50lbs
    • Comfortable climbing ladders and carrying boxes up and down the stairs
    • Able to walk up and down stairs frequently and often throughout the day
    • Able to bend, stoop and twist
