Job Summary: 

 

NOC is looking for a qualified candidate to join our Vehicle Shop team as the Assistant Manager. As the Assistant Manager of NOC’s Vehicle Shop, you will work with our small team at the Vehicle Shop on Needmore Rd. approximately 5 miles from the Main NOC Campus near Bryson City, NC.  In this position, you will work with the River Overhead Manager, Vehicle Shop Manager and other mechanics and shop employees to ensure all NOC vehicles are registered, inspected and in proper, safe running condition when they are in service.

 

NOC maintains a fleet of approximately 100 vehicles of varying types with diesel engines, gasoline engines and a few electric motors including, busses, trucks, vans, cars and trailers. Most days will be spent at the Vehicle Shop but travel to our Outpost locations in multiple southeastern states is sometimes necessary. A flexible schedule that will include some weekend and holiday duty is required during the season when NOC is busiest from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

 

This position is located in beautiful western North Carolina and is the perfect place for any outdoor enthusiast. This position is full-time, year round and benefits eligible including health and dental insurance, 401k, vacation and sick days. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Manager with managing and organizing the shop
  • Plan daily workflow in the shop to ensure efficiency
  • Purchase supplies and vehicles
  • Maintain a budget and keep accurate records of pending and completed work
  • Diagnose issues, execute repairs and perform routine maintenance to keep our fleet in tip top condition
  • Maintain and repair gasoline and diesel engines
  • Operate basic diagnostic computers to troubleshoot automotive repairs
  • Conduct Federal and State inspections on all NOC vehicles
  • Perform any other functions as outlined by the Vehicle Shop Manager

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines
  • Experience operating basic diagnostic computers routinely used in automotive repairs
  • Working knowledge of computers and spread sheets that can be used to organize workload and track repairs
  • Certified to conduct required Federal and State inspections on vehicles (or willing to obtain these certifications within 6 months)
  • 3 years or more of experience as a working mechanic on both gasoline and diesel engines
  • 1 year or more experience in a Managerial position preferably in the field of automotive repair.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • A valid CDL or willingness to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
  • Own a set of basic mechanics tools.
  • Ability to function as a team player, take direction as well as function independently.
  • Experience operating diagnostic computers
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Additional education in the automotive field and in Management/Business is a plus
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including some weekends during peak season
