The Nantahala Outdoor Center is seeking a Network / Desktop Administrator who will be responsible for the maintenance and end-to-end support of the network servers, backbone, and desktop / laptop computers. Job Summary: .

The Nantahala Outdoor Center is seeking an Information and Technology Manager who will be responsible for the oversight of a small IT staff, maintenance and end-to-end support of the network servers, backbone and desktop/laptop computers. This positions relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals along with reviewing, analyzing and evaluating information technology systems operations. 

Responsibilities

  • Support of all network servers, switches, workstations and printers including installation and upgrades. End user support of applications including, but not limited to, Windows workstations, MS-Office, Office365, Utilities and various stand-alone applications.
  • Support of disaster recovery processes and procedures, local area network (LAN), Microsoft Windows Server, storage area network (SAN), Microsoft Active Directory (AD), Office365, Cisco switches, firewalls, and remote access devices, Windows 7/10, third party software and end user support for onsite and mobile users.
  • Administer and support network security infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Identify, report, and resolve security violations.
  • Accurately and completely document problems and solutions on case notes.
  • Solve problems by adapting previous and new solutions to fit conditions.
  • Manage and maintain the Windows and VMware ESX servers.
  • Assist in maintaining department records pertaining to all hardware, software, networks and service agreements.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of network communications.
  • Assist with project efforts and overall infrastructure enhancements to meet company goals and objectives.
  • Work with 3rd party vendor support to implement upgrades and fixes.
  • Maintain asset inventory, network diagrams and other related and relevant records.
  • Test and evaluate network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.
  • Instruct end-users in the use of relevant technology.
  • Role will require planned and unplanned off-hour support and travel.
  • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of related work experience
  • Experience and practical knowledge of backup/restore solutions, Veeam preferred 
  • Practical knowledge of Active Directory, TCP/IP Networking, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VMware
  • Experience with software diagnostics, configuration and installation in the area of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suites
  • Infrastructure knowledge including SANs, LANs, switches and wireless networking
  • In-depth knowledge of end user desktop issues in areas ranging from desktop support, e-mail, remote support tools, application support, web technologies, video conferencing and IT security
  • Familiarity with a variety of the IT field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills (both written and verbal), analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to write processes and understand technical documentation
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of end users at all levels of the company
  • Any of the following certifications or equivalent hands-on experience is an advantage: Cisco certification, Microsoft Certified System Expert (MCSE) or A+ certification in Desktop Infrastructure, Server Infrastructure

 

Required Education or Experience desired:

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Or Bachelor degree in any field combined with relevant experience in the field.

 

Work Environment:

  • Work requires mobility with frequent bending and standing.
  • Lifting, moving, racking, etc. of computers, servers, monitors, UPS batteries, etc. is required.
  • Frequent use of arms for stretching and reaching and use of legs for walking and lifting. 80% -90% of work hours are spent sitting down.
