Job Summary: 

 

The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the Company, to include, the production of regularly scheduled and ad hoc financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP.

Responsibilities

  • Issue timely and complete monthly financial statements
  • Oversee the operations of the Asheville and Bryson City accounting offices, including training, performance goal setting and evaluation of the accounting staff
  • Assist with the preparation of financial analysis
  • Comply with local and state government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Assist with the production of the annual budget
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to the CFO
  • Ensure payables are paid in a timely manner and discounts are taken where appropriate
  • Ensure receivables are collected promptly
  • Ensure payroll is imported and processed properly and in a timely fashion
  • Ensure that debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Assist with the coordination of financial information to external auditors for the annual audit

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Experience with NetSuite (or other ERP/SAAS software)
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to business locations (Bryson City and raft outposts)
  • Strong management skills

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience with a mid-size ($10-50M) company or division of a large company, to include a minimum of 3 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a CPA or CMA designation
