    Are you an outdoor retail professional that is looking for a challenging position with a world-renowned outdoor company?  Do you want to live and work in an absolutely beautiful area located at the crossroads of the Appalachian Trail and the mighty Nantahala River?  Are you also looking for a position with excellent upward growth potential and a long list of enticing employee perks and benefits?  Well, look no further!  The Retail Shift Manager position is truly one of the most rewarding and respected positions here at the NOC Outfitters Store.  Retail Shift Managers assist store Management by overseeing the daily operations on the sales floor and providing leadership to the sales floor staff.  The ideal candidate for the Retail Shift Manager position is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the outdoor adventures and products that the NOC promotes and sells.  This is typically a Seasonal position that runs from April through October, though there is certainly potential for longer employment for the ideal candidate.   



    • Oversee floor operations during shift
      • Provide solutions to any staff or guest questions
      • Make sure change runs are done in a timely manner
      • Responsible for opening/closing duties as outlined by management


    • Outline the schedule for the day
      • Assign and delegate all work assignments/projects to floor staff
      • Coordinate breaks to maintain proper floor coverage
      • Deliver a clear and cohesive plan for the staff each day


    • Stocking and cleaning
      • Maintain a well-stocked floor
      • Work alongside staff to ensure a tidy and presentable floor


    • Ensure a positive guest experience
      • Embrace a high standard for guest service
      • Ensure the guest is the number one priority at all times
      • Provide mediation to guests or staff when necessary
      • Make certain all staff are handling guests appropriately


    • Training and Communication
      • Train incoming and returning staff as needed
      • Keep lines of communication open with management and fellow staff members



    • Must have strong guest service skills
    • Experience and knowledge in various outdoor activities and their associated retail products; including camping, hiking, backpacking, paddling, rafting, trail running, mountain biking and others
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Lead by example attitude and management style
    • Detail oriented and organized with excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task
    • Self-motivated
    • Good ‘people’ skills for a wide spectrum of personalities
    • Ability to function as a team player, take direction, and/or function independently on assigned projects
    • Familiarity with the NOC culture, values and mission
    • Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time, able to safely lift objects up to 50lbs, comfortable climbing ladders and carrying boxes up and down the stairs
