    Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our small Accounting team as soon as possible. This is a perfect opportunity for individuals looking to stay within the accounting field while also working for a reputable outdoor company. This position is responsible for assisting with monthly, quarterly and annual close which includes preparing bank reconciliations and journal entries, reviewing budgets to actual financial statements and supporting payroll processes. In addition, this position also prepares daily journal entries to record activity for all the operations of NOC, including our river outposts, restaurants, retail stores and adventure activities. 


    The Staff Accountant, reports to the Controller and is a year round, benefits eligible position. Ideal candidates will have a B.S. in Accounting and 1-3 years prior accounting experience. 




    Responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant with the full cycle of accounting including month end closing and reporting including:

    • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for assigned business units
    • Assist with the daily preparation and input of journal entries
    • Assist with the preparation of accurate bank and GL reconciliations for assigned companies
    • Assist with the preparation of monthly reports including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements
    • Compare and analyze budget to actual variance
    • Assist with 'PBC' list for external auditors
    • Serve as Payroll backup
    • Assist with special projects as assigned
    • Other duties as assigned



    • Associates degree in Accounting at minimum
    • Proficient with MS Office programs
    • Valid drivers license


    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
    • Previous Netsuite or ERP experience
    • 1-3 years prior accounting experience
    • Prior accounting experience working for a mid-sized, multi channel business

    Physical Demands and Environment

    • Must be comfortable sitting for long periods of time
    • Must be comfortable working in an indoor office environment
