    Job Summary

     

    If you have a passion for mountain biking and the desire to share it with others then we encourage you to apply to be a Bike Guide at NOC!

     

    Bike Guides work at NOC’s main campus, located on the Nantahala River, which is at the base of our on-site trail, Flint Ridge. In this position, you will facilitate our Guided Mountain Biking tours along with outfitting our Adventure Pass guests with all equipment they will need to enjoy our trails. Bike Guides will also drive shuttles to and from the on-site trailhead. Due to this responsibility, applicants for this position must be at least 21 years of age prior to their start date; current First Aid and CPR certifications are required. 

     

    This position is classified as summer seasonal and reports the Bike Shop Supervisor. NOC is looking for Guides that have availability from mid-late May through early September, however shorter availability may be accommodated based on hiring needs. 

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain and clean NOC's rental bike fleet and gear on a daily basis
    • Assist all Adventure Pass guests with their biking and trail experience, including but not limited to: shuttle guests in a van to the trailhead, outfit them with all necessary equipment, provide them information about the on-site trail system
    • Ride on-site trails at least once a week to check for downed trees or other potential hazards
    • Maintain trails to NOC's standards including, but not limited to:
    • Operate as a Bike Guide on our Guided Mountain Bike programs that are offered throughout the summer months
    • Assist guests with technical questions regarding the appropriate bike, equipment, gear and fit
    • Promote other NOC adventures, and provide local area information, especially local trails and directions
    • Other tasks and duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Applicant must have: 

    • Valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record
    • Current First Aid and CPR certification
    • Prior mountain biking experience is preferred
    • A professional appearance and attitude
    • Ability to sustain productive work with little supervision
    • Ability to learn and perform basic bike maintenance 
    • A love for the outdoors and an enjoyment for mountain biking
    • Ability to speak clearly and concisely

     

    Applicant must be:

    • Preferably 21 years of age or older for insurance reasons
    • Comfortable driving a 15 person van on steep and winding mountain roads and in some instances with a trailer
    • Capable of providing an excellent guest experience
    • A self starter 

    • Effective at communicating with coworkers

    • Willing to take ownership

    • Comfortable working in a teamwork-based environment
    • Able to take direction well and exhibit good judgment

     Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

    • Ability to move and lift up to 30lbs repeatedly
    • Comfortable leading mountain bike trips
    • Able to ride at least 5 miles on mild to strenuous terrain
    • Comfortable working alone in a fairly remote location
    • Comfortable working in various climates (heat, cold, wind, rain)
    • Ability to bend, stoop, twist
